LCA design guide

Using science to prioritize design strategies: If you are a designer or engineer new to sustainability, how do you know where to start? How do you avoid greenwashing and spend development money wisely?

The Productdesign.green website uses pre-calculated life cycle assessments to show you the largest environmental impacts for different product categories.  For each product category, it uses data from several sources and displays uncertainty.  It then suggests eco-design strategies based on the biggest impacts.  Thus, you as a designer or engineer do not need to learn LCA, you can directly start designing with science-based guidelines.

Currently the website shows data for seven product categories (above), but you could help expand the site for more product categories.

The team: Productdesign.green was created by professor Jeremy Faludi and several dedicated students: Emily Martinez, Soon Young Shimizu, Jonathan Klein, and Lylia Eng. If you have feedback, or want to get involved, email Dr. Faludi.
